Pikes Peak Section Awards Luncheon

The Pikes Peak Section of the Society of Women will honor 2004 scholarship winners and sponsors at an awards luncheon on Saturday, 24 July. The program will begin at 11:30 AM at the Officers Club at the United States Air Force Academy. Reservations are required.

Pikes Peak Section was chartered in January 1994. To demonstrate support of women in engineering, the Section established an annual scholarship program to award scholarships to high school seniors and college students in Southern Colorado pursuing engineering degrees. Awards are presented to the candidates that have the most potential promise as engineers. Applicants are rated based on academic achievement, demonstrated interest in engineering, community involvement, and letters of recommendation. Prominent engineering corporations in Southern Colorado provide funds to sponsor the scholarships.

The Section is pleased to announce 2004 scholarship winners and sponsors:

The members of the Pikes Peak Section of the Society of Women Engineers are committed to encouraging women to achieve their full potential in engineering careers.

PPS Scholarship Committee

The PPS Scholarship Committee once again had a tough choice narrowing down our thirty high school applicants to eight winners. Of our applicants, 6 girls were class valedictorians or salutatorians at their schools. All but one had Math or Science GPA's over 3.5 and most were over 4.0. Twenty-two applicants were in the top 10% of their graduating classes with five in the top 1%.

All of these young women were worthy of scholarships, and we sincerely thank our sponsors who made it possible to award eight of them. Thank you to the Committee Co-chairs, Pat Miranda and Christine Coakley and to our judges, Jennifer Dickhans, Dessie Dyson, Connie King, Mirta Walker, and Wanda Williams.
